- Up to 60 % more material can be applied on vertical surfaces in comparison with standard PU colour lacquers
- 40 % higher opacity across all colour tones and up to 25 % higher solids content in comparison with UNA-COLOR
- can be directly applied onto MDF edges
- good metal-marking resistance; a transparent top coat can be omitted in many cases
Surface Preparation
Clean, well seasoned wood, depending on species and application method.
Perform cleaning by sanding on foil or melamine before coating.
Substrate sanding grits from-to
150 – 180 grit (with raw wood)
320 – 400 grit (foil, melamine, filler-coated substrate)
Intermediate lacquer sanding (grits) from-to
320 – 400
Finishing
With itself. If total adhesive strength, colour abrasion resistance or a different gloss level are required, we recommend final coating with a clear and light fast PU lacquer, such as those in the Hesse UNA-PUR DE 55x(gloss level) / industry no. DE 4259x(gloss level) or Hesse MEGA-PUR DE 56x(gloss level) / industry no. DE 4503x(gloss level) ranges. If necessary, the following Hesse high-gloss systems can be applied on top of FANTASTIC-COLOR after a drying period > 6 h / 20 °C: ADAMANT DU 48889, PU Brilliant lacquer DU 46269-0005, PU Brillant-Color DB 44099-(colour tone) as well as HYDRO-PU Brilliant lacquer HDE 54799.
Application
Smooth roller
Processing instructions
You can apply one to two coats of Hesse FANTASTIC-COLOR DB 4888x(gloss level)-(colour tone) at 80 – 180 g/m² on suitable substrates. The maximum application amount in wet film totals 600 g/m². Hardening at 5 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4076-0001 after previously mixing in 5 % Glass lacquer additive EL 460-0025 with the lacquer components also enables direct coating on glass after it has been properly cleaned. For cleaning glass surfaces before application we recommend Hesse Cleaning thinner ZD 101. FANTASTIC-COLOR with a mixing ratio (by volume) of 10 : 1 can also be applied using DR 470 / DR 4070.
Direct application on untreated MDF should only be carried out with a mixing ratio (by volume) of 10 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4071!
- PU lacquers should not be applied and dried at material and room-temperatures below 18 °C and 40 % RH. Ideal values are: 20 – 25 °C, 50 – 65 % RH. Deviations will result in drying or hardening errors.
- In order to avoid adhesion problems, please sand the PU lacquered surfaces before applying fresh lacquer and apply lacquer to the sanded surfaces as soon as possible.
- Old lacquer and hardener mixtures affect the surface quality (adhesion/resistance).
- Freshly bleached substrates must undergo intermediate drying for at least 48 h at 20 °C before coating with suitable PU lacquers.
- If stored correctly (at least 20 °C room temperature), the final hardness of the coating is achieved after a week. Please apply a test coat under real conditions!
